For over 100 years, our name has been associated with the growth of this region. We've gone from mules, to steam shovels, to modern machines, but today, we carry that torch forward with the loyalty, integrity, and precision that started all the way back with N.C. Beal himself.
Generations of Excellence
Passed down through five generations, our work is defined by the same principles of loyalty and precision that guided us in 1919. We remain a cornerstone of the regional construction industry.
N.C. Beal and S.C. Beal launched the enterprise 'Beal Brothers', the beginning of a multi-generational legacy in the South. In the early 20's, the brothers completed their first road project with nothing but mules, a steam shovel, and 1 Caterpillar tractor. They were responsible for countless miles of the North Carolina foundational roadways as part of a $225 million highway system. This led to the brothers being profiled in state history books as part of their "Good Roads" campaign which is still used as a state slogan to this day.

1919
1940s
According to state officials, Beal Brothers received license #205 in the early 1920's, in a field now numbering over 45,000. The brothers then replaced mules with mechanical equipment that worked all phases of earthmoving. After the sudden death of S.C. in 1942, N.C. built the office where we still reside to this day and established a 50 mile radius around Sanford. The company then became N.C. Beal & Sons Inc., shifting from state road building to industrial and commercial site preparation. N.C. Beal ran the company until his death in 1964, where his son Cone Beal then took over as President with his brother Hester Beal as VP.
1980s
As times continued to change, so did N.C. Beal & Sons. We magnified our fleet and our operations, which helped us continue to shape North Carolina's infrastructure. Since the early days, we've been known for using equipment modern for its time, and since the beginning, we have been loyal to Caterpillar equipment. Our relationship to Gregory Poole Equipment Company is almost as long-lasting as the companies themselves. And while things did change throughout the years, one thing that never did and never will is how dedicated our family and employees are to what we do.
Today
Cone's son Carl Beal and daughter Jean Thomas have been running the company for decades before entrusting the current 4th generation leadership of Greg Beal and Mark Thomas. From N.C. and S.C, to Cone and Hester, to Carl and Jean, to Greg and Mark, the knowledge and ability to carry on this legacy continues to increase. N.C. Beal & Sons Inc. may have started with mules, but it has grown into something that every generation of Beals would be proud of.
